Fraser Public Advisory Group
Meeting Archive

The CSA SFM Z809 Standard requires that the Teal-Jones Group involve the public in identifying and selecting local Values, Objectives, Targets and Indicators, as well as alternate strategies. According to the Fraser Public Advisory Group Terms of Reference, the Teal-Jones Group invited a diverse group of local, interested parties to participate as members of the Fraser Public Advisory Group (Fraser PAG).

Members are involved in learning about forest values and forest management in the forest lands managed by the Teal-Jones Group in the Chilliwack Forest District. Members identify the values important to them and share their opinions with the group. The meetings focus on education and the identification of local values and objectives. The group will choose targets and indicators to evaluate how the Teal-Jones Group is managing local values and objectives, including, but not limited to:

  • Biological Diversity (Ecosystem Diversity, Species Diversity, Genetic Diversity, Protected areas & Sites of Special Biological Significance)
  • Ecosystem Condition & Productivity (Forest Ecosystem Resilience, Forest Ecosystem Productivity)
  • Soil and Water (Soil Quality & Quantity, Water Quality & Quantity)
  • Global Ecological Cycles (Carbon Uptake & Storage, Forest Land Conversion)
  • Multiple Benefits to Society (Timber & Non-Timber Benefits, Communities & Sustainability, Fair Distribution of Benefits & Costs)
  • Society's Responsibility (Aboriginal & Treaty Rights, Respect for Aboriginal Forest Values, Knowledge & Uses, Public Participation)

The target and indicator set developed by the Fraser PAG will then become an integral part of the Sustainable Forest Management Plan (SFMP) for the Fraser operating areas of the Teal-Jones Group. After the SFMP is developed, the Fraser PAG will meet at least twice a year to review the plan and its indicator set.

The Fraser PAG held its first meeting on August 29th, 2006 and meets approximately every three weeks. Information will be added to the links below as meetings are completed.
