Helicopter Logging

Helicopter Logging is carried out at all of The Teal-Jones Group Logging Divisions. Typically, it is used in areas that may have visual concerns, or if conventional road access poses a problem. On average, about 25% of Teal's harvest comes from heli-logging.

Our engineering staff identifies potential Helicopter Logging Areas. An evaluation is made to determine the economics and operability of the area. The planning phase may take up to 1 year to complete as we comply with all government regulations.

Once an area has been approved for harvest, tree fallers fly to the area in a small "support" helicopter. Falling of trees can take place in large openings, or small patch cuts depending upon the Professional Forester's prescription. Workers then attach small cables to the logs (called "Chokers"), which are then attached to a hovering "heavy lift" helicopter. Logs are flown to a convenient road site and loaded onto a logging truck. From there, logs are transported to our Dry Land Sorting Yard and the eventual transfer to our mills.
